Chapter Three Song: Never Saw Blue Like That - Shawn Colvin
Jenna turned on Fintail Road and drove slowly down the street. She pulled up in front of house number thirty two and starred into the front yard, not sure what to expect.
She turned the radio off but kept the car running. She was finally there, 859 kilometers drive and two days to get there, now she was sitting outside of his house.
Should she do this? She doubted herself. Was Gina right?
Jenna believed she was right in being there, she turned off the cars ignition and made her way out of her car.
With sweaty palms Jenna walked up to Jacobe's front door, she didn't pause for fear of changing her mind and having to turn around and drive straight back home.
She knocked on the front door, a few seconds later - which felt like hours for Jenna - the front door opened.
There Jacobe stood, holding open the front door still dressed in work clothes, dark blue navy pants, a clean crisp collared white shirt with his tie still on but untied slightly and his top button undone.
Jenna froze, starring at him with a blissfully happy smile on her face.
"Jenna!" He shrieked in disbelief, his eyes wide with amazement and his mouth open.
"Hi Jacobe" Jenna said softly.
Jacobe scooped her into his arms and hugged her tightly for a long hug, not letting go.
"What are you doing here?" He asked her looking deep into her eyes as if to find the answers there, not letting go of her in his arms.
She held him tightly against her and rested her head on his shoulder, it felt amazing to be with him in that moment, just hugging each other seemed to make things better for Jenna. She paused for a moment not sure exactly on how to answer his question, she hadn't thought about what she would say, she just knew she had to see him.
"I came to see you." Jenna said as she let go of their embrace.
Jacobe smiled at her with warm affection.
"Come on in, I'm just making dinner. You should have called I would have made something a bit more exciting for dinner. God, its so good to see you." He lead her through his long hallway into the kitchen.
Jenna stood against the kitchen bench and watched Jacobe as he prepared dinner.
"So, is Kylie home?" Jenna asked, not having seen her yet.
"No, she's off late night shopping with some girlfriends in the city, she'll be staying over there tonight, so its just you and me... Tell me everything, you can't just be here to visit, what's going on?" Jacobe continued to chop vegetables.
Jenna forced a smile and didn't say anything. Jacobe knew something was up, he had this funny feeling.
He stopped what he was doing and turned to her, "Jen?"
He put his hand on her shoulder, "dinner can wait. How about we sit down, have a drink and talk?"
Jenna agreed and they retreated to the outdoor patio. Jacobe turned on the outside lamp and sat down next to Jenna on the patio furniture. She passed him one of the glasses of wine she had carried out.
"Okay," Jacobe said once he got comfortable, "whats going on?"
Jenna looked down at her wine glass with sad eyes and sighed.
"You know you can tell me anything babe, it's gotta be something important if you've travelled all this way." He brushed a lock of hair from her face and tucked it gently behind her ear.
She looked up at him with dreamy eyes, she loved his touch and had forgotten how good it felt. One tear began to well up in Jenna's eye, then one became two and so the small tears fell down her face.
"Jake, I have made a big mistake -"
"Well, we can fix it, every problem has a solution."
"No.." She whispered, "just hear me out."
Jenna took a deep breath,
"I've been with Mark for years now, and all that time with him, something has been missing. I've been telling myself time and time again, that its just silly. I've been pushing that feeling away, ignoring it, but things with Mark have just gotten worse and worse. And its only now after all these years I've come to realise." Jenna stopped her tears.
"You're what's missing in my life Jake, you."
Jenna took another deep breath, calming herself,
"I know you're with Kylie now, and I don't expect anything from you, but you know I love you, I always will, but more truth is, I'm still in love with you. I can't imagine my life being right without you, I was wrong to break up with you when I did, I was afraid back then of what I felt for you, I didn't realise what we had. But now I realise exactly what you and I were, and the only fear I feel now is the thought of not being with you." Jenna sighed and closed her eyes. She felt like a weight was lifted from her shoulders, but she instantly wondered to herself if that was the right thing to say.
Jacobe sat there stunned with all the information and love Jenna had just declared for him. His heart filled with butterflies, just like when he first met her. He looked lovingly into Jenna's eyes and caressed her cheek with his finger tips and the palm of his hand. Jenna closed her eyes and breathed deeply as the nights cool breeze rushed against her face, memorizing his touch as her hair blew in the wind, she opened her eyes and longing looked into his.
They both leaned into each other, Jenna traced her fingers from his forehead to his chin. Jacobe wrapped his hand around the back of her kneck and gently pulled her close to him they closed their eyes and Jacobe kissed Jenna lightly on her lips, lingering for a moment, soaking up the feeling. Jenna felt her heart skip a beat, the kiss was magical, she opened her eyes and Jacobe was already looking at her, searching her face for a responce. She closed her eyes and pulled him back for another kiss, this one longer and more intense.
Jenna lent her head against Jacobe's shoulder and wrapped her arms around him as he held her close to him.
"I've never stopped being in love with you Jenna, never." Jacobe squeesed her in his arms and kissed her softly on her forhead. "But I have to tell you something..."
